Welcome to Eagles Class

Welcome to Eagles Class! Miss Davies is the class teacher, and we are supported across the year six cohort by Mrs Lunt, Miss Evans and Mrs Higgins. Miss Griffiths will also be supporting groups of children across the UKS2 cohort throughout the year. Eagles is a Year 6 class that embodies the values of teamwork, faith and resilience, as we expect increasing independence in the last stage of primary education, while providing various opportunities for personal development. Pupils take increasing responsibility for their learning, from organising their daily tasks to leading group projects and discussions. Ultimately, year six requires hard work, dedication, but ultimately, a lot of fun and laughter together.

Autumn Term PE Days

Monday afternoon (Athletics – Outdoors)
Tuesday morning (Cricket – Outdoors)

The class culture emphasises resilience, curiosity, and opportunities to share and reflect so everyone feels confident to contribute and push themselves. It’s a space where students prepare for secondary school while still enjoying the warmth and identity of a closeknit team.

In Eagles Class, each day begins with Morning Maths and quiet reading to settle pupils into learning. Daily English and Maths lessons, supported by regular arithmetic practice, build fluency, pace and confidence. Children enjoy four engaging reading sessions each week, linked to the wider curriculum, with foundation subjects woven throughout to deepen connections. We promote active, collaborative learning to help pupils learn from one another, while prioritising physical and mental wellbeing through our approach and regular Fit 15 sessions using the track and gym equipment.

In Eagles Class, each day begins with a targeted morning task, usually grammar, spelling or reading comprehension, to settle pupils into learning. Transition times are important to us in Eagles, and we ensure every child has the opportunity to settle from social times, whether that be through Newsround time, journalling, quiet reading or enjoying our class text. This means all children are in the green zone, and ready for their learning.

Reading is the gateway to all learning. In Year 6, whole-class reading strengthens comprehension, fluency and confidence through shared high-quality texts. Teachers model expert reading and thinking aloud, while pupils discuss vocabulary, analyse language and explore themes together. Using the same text promotes rich discussion, builds stamina for complex material, and ensures all pupils can access ambitious content and contribute to thoughtful dialogue.

Snack and Current Affairs: Each day, we sit together to eat our healthy snacks and watch Newsround. This enables rich discussion around current affairs and helps us to empathise with those around the world, not just in our Oakmeadow community.
