Welcome to Rabbits Class

Miss Brown is the class teacher, and Mrs Higgins is the teaching assistant. In Rabbits Class, we recognise that children learn best when their curiosity is sparked and they are actively involved in meaningful discussion. As children move from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2, we nurture their growing independence and confidence. They take part in activities that invite them to explore ideas, practice new skills and express their thinking in different ways, helping them become enthusiastic, self-motivated learners.

Our days in Year 3 are full of energy, curiosity and joyful learning. We begin each morning with Mastering Number, a calm and focused start that helps children build strong number fluency and confidence, setting them up beautifully for the day ahead.

Maths and English form the heart of our morning routine, giving children daily opportunities to become confident problem-solvers and imaginative writers. Spelling is woven into our English lessons at least twice a week, and the same spellings are sent home to practise, ready for our Thursday test.

Reading is a treasured part of our week. At least three times a week, we explore rich and exciting texts that spark imagination and deepen understanding. Every child also brings home their own reading book each day, with the expectation that they enjoy at least 10 minutes of reading with an adult.

Our afternoons are filled with the colour and variety of our foundation subjects. RE, PE, Geography, History, Science, Art, DT, Music and PSHE are thoughtfully spread throughout the week to keep learning lively and engaging. PE takes place twice a week, giving children two hours of active fun, and each day we enjoy FIT15, where we head outside for a refreshing 15minute walk or run around the school track — perfect for boosting energy and wellbeing.

Times tables are a big focus in Year 3, and we make practice exciting with Times Tables Rock Stars. Children take part in these sessions at least four times a week in school, and it also forms part of their homework to help build speed, confidence and accuracy.

Worship is a special part of our school community. On Mondays, Mrs Hill welcomes us all back with a whole school gathering. Tuesdays bring joyful singing worship, Wednesdays are spent with Reverend Peter for church worship, Thursdays are Key Stage worship for Years 1, 2 and 3, and Fridays end the week with celebration worship, where we recognise achievements big and small.

We enjoy a 15minute morning break and a full hour for lunch. For breaktime, our Key Stage 2 children bring a healthy snack — fruit or vegetables are ideal. At lunchtime, children can choose a packed lunch from home or a delicious hot meal cooked on site, and everyone eats together, helping to build a warm sense of community.
