We are supported by Miss Nurse and Mrs Beharrell. A bit about the class: In Butterflies, children build confidence as independent learners. They consolidate key skills in reading, writing and maths while exploring wider subjects through create hands-on experiences. Lessons encourage, curiosity, problem-solving, and collaboration, helping pupils apply their growing knowledge to real-life contexts.
Our Year 2 children start each morning with daily challenges designed to spark their thinking and get them ready for learning. These activities change each day and focus on key skills such as spelling, maths, and reading.
Every day includes a time of worship, which may be whole school, key stage, with singing, with church, or a celebration assembly. This helps children reflect, share values, and feel part of the wider school community.
The morning continues with phonics, English, and maths lessons, where children build confidence in their reading, writing, and number skills. These sessions are carefully structured to support progress and encourage independence.
During break and lunchtime, children enjoy valuable socialisation time with friends, playing and chatting together outdoors, or indoors when the weather is poor. These sessions provide opportunities not only for relaxation but also for engaging in enriching activities that foster creativity, teamwork, and confidence.
After lunch, the afternoons are devoted to the foundation subjects and Science. Children enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum including reading, P.E., PSHE, computing, design & technology, geography, history, R.E., and art. These lessons give them opportunities to be creative, curious, and collaborative while exploring the wider world.
To keep active and healthy, children also take part in Fit15 each afternoon, where they walk, jog, or run around the track. This daily burst of exercise supports wellbeing, concentration, and enjoyment of physical activity.
By following this routine, children experience a rich and varied school day that balances academic learning, creativity, physical activity, and spiritual growth.
