In Ladybirds we pride ourselves in offering nurturing, caring and inclusive provision to provide every child with the best possible start in life and the support that will enable them to fulfil their potential. We know that what happens early, matters for a lifetime.
High levels of engagement are the key to ensuring progress and attainment, and children with high levels of wellbeing will be engaged. Children that are fascinated and curious about what is going on around them will make successful learners. We work hard to respond to the unique children in front of us and to weave that engagement and interest into our teaching.
In nursery, we focus on the three prime areas of learning which work together and are crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
These areas are strengthened and applied through the four specific areas of essential skills and knowledge for children to participate successfully in society which we weave into our teaching.
We provide a balance of adult-led and play-based activities for the children. Our curriculum is progressive from our youngest children through to Reception and builds on developing both skills and knowledge whilst incorporating the interests and needs of our children.
We follow a consistent daily routine so that the children are familiar with what to expect daily, whilst also ensuring that they are motivated and excited by the learning opportunities that we provide.
Each day begins with a varied range of independent activities for the children to engage with whilst we greet and settle our children. We then gather for our morning routine of songs, talk time and our planned adult-led input. The children then access our continuous provision with adult enhancements and can immerse themselves in learning both indoors and out. Our environment is carefully designed and resourced to provide opportunities for the children to practice and apply their skills independently whilst our enhancements allow us as adults to scaffold or challenge our focused learning.
Snack time is an important aspect of the morning when the children sit down to enjoy a range of healthy options including fruit, vegetables and toast, crumpets etc. with a drink of milk or water. We use the opportunity to sit down with the children to model and support with fine motor skills of pouring and cutting whilst also engaging in conversation to develop their communication and language skills as well as personal, social and emotional development and maths.
We have a further phonics-based adult -led session before lunchtime.
Our 2-year-old children eat in the nursery and our 3- and 4-year-olds join older children in the hall before an opportunity for free play outside.
After lunch our youngest children settle down for a rest whilst our older children enjoy story time followed by funky fingers fine motor activities and then free flow indoors and out accessing the continuous provision. We have a further quick snack in the afternoon before gathering on the carpet to talk about our learning and share another story and song to finish off the day.
