At Oakmeadow Primary School, pupils access an engaging, highquality science education that provides strong foundations for understanding the world around them. We recognise that for many children, science is an exciting and engaging subject, and our curriculum is designed to nurture curiosity, encourage questioning and develop a lifelong interest in how the world works.
Our science curriculum supports children in developing secure scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding across the subject disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. We place a strong emphasis on helping pupils understand the nature, processes and methods of science through a range of scientific enquiries. Children are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, observe closely, carry out investigations and draw conclusions about the world around them. At Oakmeadow, we are committed to ensuring that all children can flourish and succeed in science, developing confidence in their abilities and a strong sense of scientific identity. We recognise the importance of equipping pupils with the scientific knowledge and skills they will need for the future.
To ensure progression and coherence, we use our schoolspecific Science Progression Framework, which clearly maps learning from EYFS through to Year 6. This is underpinned by the Developing Experts scheme, which provides a structured approach to knowledge and skills progression across the school. Class teachers adapt this thoughtfully to ensure learning remains engaging, accessible and responsive to the needs of their pupils.
In recognition of our commitment to excellence in science teaching and learning, Oakmeadow Primary School achieved the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM) in 2025, reflecting the strength, consistency and impact of science across the school.
