At Oakmeadow, the PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) curriculum is designed to nurture the whole child through a holistic, evolving programme grounded in five key strands: family and relationships, health and well-being, safety and the changing body, citizenship, and economic well-being, with an additional focus on identity in Year 6. Rooted in the school’s values and vision, and supported by frameworks like the Kapow scheme and Zones of Regulation, the curriculum aims to equip children with the knowledge, skills, and emotional intelligence needed to thrive in a complex, ever-changing world. It emphasises resilience, empathy, respect, and self-awareness, while also preparing students for economic independence and active citizenship.

The curriculum follows a cyclical, spiral approach that deepens understanding over time, integrating cognitive science principles to enhance memory and learning. Children are encouraged to explore real-life issues in a safe, respectful environment, with regular assessments to track progress. Enrichment opportunities and global event celebrations further enhance cultural capital. Teachers are empowered to adapt lessons to meet students’ needs, ensuring the curriculum remains responsive and impactful. Ultimately, Oakmeadow’s PSHE programme aims to foster confident, responsible, and well-rounded individuals ready to contribute positively to their communities and succeed in life.
