Welcome to Hawks Class

We are supported by Mrs Ryan and Miss Tunnicliffe. Hawks is a Year 6 class that prioritises well-being and belonging, as well as academic learning and achievement. Children are increasingly responsible for leading their learning, with lessons creating plenty of opportunities for discussion, problem solving, creative thinking, and collaborative work. Our class culture emphasises empathy, independence, curiosity, teamwork, as well as opportunities to share and reflect, so everyone feels confident to contribute and push themselves. It is a safe space where children prepare for secondary school, while still enjoying the warmth and identity of a close-knit team.

Each day begins with a focused morning task followed by calm, independent reading to help everyone settle into their day
Our daily English and Maths lessons are supported by regular arithmetic sessions designed to build fluency, pace and confidence.  Across the week, children enjoy four rich reading sessions featuring exciting texts linked to the wider curriculum. These whole class lessons are designed to strengthen children’s comprehension, fluency and confidence by exploring high quality texts together.
Foundation subjects are thoughtfully woven throughout our timetable, helping pupils make meaningful connections in their learning. We promote active learning, whereby children work creatively and with different learning partners, so we can teach each other and learn from each other.
Physical and mental health are prioritised and our active learning approach enables children to develop in these areas. To supplement this further, children enjoy Fit 15 sessions, where they can utilise our track and gym equipment at appropriate times in the school day.

Daily Worship: as a Church of England school, each day includes a time of worship, offering space to be still, learn and reflect together as a community. Whole school worship allows us to celebrate our faith as a school family and to celebrate our school values.
Snack and lunchtime: The children are asked to sit together around tables to enjoy a healthy fruit snack each morning. They are also given the opportunity to stay for lunches; either a school hot dinner or a packed lunch from home. These experiences help the children to interact with each other outside of lessons.
